You may choose to pen poetry about snowfall and roaring fires. All forms of creative writing are a valid way to let winter pass you by, opting for the consolation of words flowing while gales are blowing (ouch).

What Is Stopping You/Me?

Do we easily give ourselves permission to write…or do we continuously seek distractions and reasons why we cannot? Do we procrastinate or persevere?

Do we see writing as a priority…or a luxury?

What Can We Do To Ensure We Write?

Promise yourself to:

aim for a specific word count within a given amount of time
or write one word after the other
complete a current piece of work
or begin a new piece
journal daily
or read for research

Stay Connected With Your Writing Wherever You Are

Even with family and friend commitments, or regular domestic duties, for me the best part of the winter is settling into my office with a scented candle burning, a hot drink, bottle of refreshing water, planned snacks waiting in the fridge (or beside me), and allowing the time to be used doing what I love.

The Lies We Tell Ourselves

One day you may walk to the park and feel blessed. Another day, you may walk to the garden gate, pull a muscle, limp back home, no choice but to rest.

You have not stopped being a walker.

One day, you will write and you will feel blessed. Another day, you will write and feel foolish, as though no original thought has ever left your mind.

You are still a writer.

Don’t let anyone or anything stop you writing.

Especially Yourself.

Create. Enjoy. Repeat.
