I am obsessed with the idea of barns as agricultural buildings. My childhood included running in and out of them when we visited my Grandad Blake on his smallholding. He began his working life as a blacksmith, moving into more general agriculture, concluding with a smallholding of pigs and turkeys.

Let’s not restart the debate about the ethics of converting farm buildings. I have had holidays in fairly humble agricultural conversions. Always, I believed my staying there was better than the building crumbling into the soil through lack of love. Many a farm is kept going by converting outbuildings for visitors to use when they stay in the area. I hope they will receive oodles of tourists in the coming years.
