HH is for Human Habits

Which Human Habits Do I Mean? There are many aspects in human behaviour that are habit-forming but I’m here to examine my own best failing! Confession: I am an habitual self-doubter and it is at an acute stage right now. We All Have to Challenge Our Own Habits… This is all quite depressing today. Huge apologies. However, my own writing struggles are being echoed all […]

GG is for Gigantic Gaps

What is this Gigantic Gap? It is unavoidable that I cannot always be actively writing – either my blog or my novel. Since 3rd March, I have furthered the novel significantly. It’s this website that has been neglected for over one month. But …I can’t always put into words what I’m going through until the words come to me. It’s no secret I have a […]

FF is for Feeble Feelings

Are They Always a Good Excuse? or when is an excuse a good reason? Is feeling unwell, tired, or uninspired, ever a reason not to write? No, I’d say, even though life for me is so taxing that I am not feeling like doing anything at all. But that would be an illogical response because I would suffer more anguish for not writing something. That’s […]

EE is for Extra Education

I wrote about this topic in the post A Course, Of Course, and followed up with A Confession Of Course, so you may like to glance back at those first. In time-honoured what?why?when?where?how? style, I’ll make a start on telling you what education is engaging me this year. What? Did you realise anyone can access the UK’s own Open University? You don’t have to study […]

DD is for Dialogue Dilemmas

I hope this piece will entertain and educate my readers. And, as I am writing exactly one month after the previous post, I will say first of all, in dialogue-style: ‘I wish my readers, fellow Later Writers, A Happy and Productive 2022.’ ‘And how might that come about?’ I hear you ask. ‘Through practice, through reading, through listening, you will find your material. Through perseverance […]

CC is for Christmas Customs

In this series I alliterate a two-word title and then make myself write it. It’s a personal challenge that will get me out of a sticky patch where, while writing my novel, I’m not always coming up with the goods on my blog. Customs Are Individual Choices In our household of two older adults, me and him, we have always enjoyed staying home at Christmas […]

BB is for Brilliant Break

In this series I alliterate a two-word title and then make myself write it. It’s a personal challenge that will get me out of a sticky patch where, while writing my novel, I’m not always coming up with the goods on my blog. The Break Was In Hull [aka Kingston upon Hull] Hull lies on the river of the same name, near to the Humber estuary, in […]

AA is for Alliterative Articles

In this new series I’m going to alliterate the two-word title and then make myself write it. A personal challenge that will get me out of a sticky patch where, while writing my novel, I’m not always coming up with the goods on my blog. Why I Need This I don’t live a boring life. However, my brain has a one-track setting. If my emotional […]

Freewriting (6) My Novel Writing

Peppered in amongst the Later Writer posts are several mentions of my novel attempts so far. Earlier this years, I abandoned the second attempt and Turned to Crime.

For this piece of Freewriting, I thought I’d tell you about my novel writing so far.

Cautionary Tales

Dear Reg, Who Would Not Eat His Veg (A Cautionary Tale)

Toddler Reg ate all his puréed food,
But with diced veg, he was not so good.
He’d eat the meat and then the chips,
Consume them all and lick his lips.
But sitting on his dish forlorn,
Were bits of carrot, peas, and corn.
