The Meanings of Sound

By Shirl D

Setting Myself a Poetry Challenge

Here’s a poetry challenge for you.

Topic: use several interrelated nouns and sound words in a playful way

I will aim for about 12-14 lines… [shackle Inner Critic]

The draft version will remain in my notebook. For this challenge, you are given the finished poem, although it may not be as polished as possible! I have continued to revisit my work down through the years.

The Meaning of Sounds

Husband snoring
Not yet morning

Alarm waking
Tablet taking

Oven whirring
Dinner's stirring

Buzzer humming
Parcels coming

Gentle purr
Stroke fur

Tiny giggles
Baby wriggles

Cork popping
Thirst stopping
